A black wolf lifted his head from the stream's edge, pink tongue's tip just barely brushing the glassy surface when the animal spotted something flowing down stream. Lifting his head and snapping his mouth shut he let one ear stand straighter than the other as he peered on in curiosity at the nearing object. His tail twitched and began to swing in anticipation. Maybe it was something to eat? Hopefully.
Raelen's tail dropped the minute the object slipped silently into view, the soft gurgling and cooing of the stream drowning out any noise it might make, however strange that might be. Snorting he reached out with one paw and pulled the object gently closer and to the bank's edge, bringing it up upon the muddy, sodden ground. He sighed and pressed down on it a bit, dumb flower. It's petals were a deep hue of the most royal violet, the shade thickening as you got to the flower's hard center. Withint the stem sprouted long yellow appendages, reaching for something, anything. The wolf sighed once again and pushed it aside, not even having the heart to crush a flower. Such a softie he was.
The black wolf sat back on his haunches, wiggling his toes in the water, the cool sensation soothing to him. Amber eyes focused ahead he stared at nothing in particular, eyes lucid as if caught in a hazy daydream. But he wasn't, he was merely content is all.

Following the soothing river he so doted upon, Halifax was relieved to be away from the little gathering and back into the arms of the soothing current. Though it was still early, the day was already unbelievably hot and a swim in the cool waters was the perfect remedy. Birds called out to each other mid-flight, carrying their intricate duet far across the land. The air carried not a breath of wind, granting none her sweet mercy from the scorching heat. The dirty-cream male had never ventured this far downstream for fear of crossing paths with a pack member. Now that he possessed a position in the pack, he need not fear such a circumstance.
Up-stream, the flanking trees grew denser and closer to the water's edge, their limbs reaching over the top of the quiet river to meet those on the other side, forming a sort of tunnel. Halifax trotted eagerly through the shallower section of the stream up to the inviting sanctuary. The relief of having the hot sun off his back was instant, making him sigh with contentment. With the cool water moving around and through his body, murmuring quietly over protruding stones and other diversion; and with the protective tree-limbs overhead, it really was a sanctuary. His own private little get-away.
On the brink of dozing off, his body sprawled atop a partially-submerged boulder, a sound from further downstream caught the male's attention. The accompanying scent old him it was another wolf, but not one he had come across before. Although part of him wanted to stay where he was, Halifax had to wonder if the unknown wolf posed a threat to the pack, and if so, that it would be his duty to "escort" them out. Heaving himself off the rock, he climbed out of the water and on to the bank so as to hush his approach. Weaving quietly through the maze of trunks, Halifax spotted the lone wolf, his pelt similar to the of Dragula's, but his physique far more pleasing to the eye.
Slowly emerging from the small forest, the Souse-wolf ensured that his approach was known, not bothering to quieten his foot-falls or his voice as it called out in greeting. "Afternoon." he did not try to sound imposing or intimidating, it was but a casual greeting, laced with nothing but inquisition. "From what pack are you?" still he maintained a level, casual tone - friendly even. Though Halifax knew he could not submit to a potential intruder if he was to make him leave, his posture was nothing but submissive, even though he did not know it. He carried himself the only way he knew how, the way he had been taught for as long as he could remember. Fortunately though, his build was something that could not be doused by the flames of submission, forcing one to think twice before attacking, despite his under-dog aptitude.
[/b] Halifax has only just been admitted into the pack, and so is unsure of who is a Sousewolf and who isn't.[/sub][/ul] [/size][/color][/blockquote][/blockquote]

Raelen, quite bored with his current state of mind, was just climbing to his paws when a sound met his ears. Still as stone the dark wolf became, his murky amber eyes daring to sneak a peek at his assailant. The sun was warming his skin, the dark texture of his fur drinking up the sunlight like a hungry plant. Light beads of sweat were pricking along his skin, making him increasingly uncomfortable.
Finally summing up the bravery to turn he lowered his head, his naturally skittish nature kicking in when he spotted the much larger cream-white wolf standing before him. His ears flattened automatically as the wolf drew more near with each passing second.
"Afternoon."
"From what pack are you?"
The black wolf lifted his eyes slightly confused, his tone was... friendly? But his stature radiated nothing but dominance and power. Strange. But he kept himself low to the ground, not wanting to offend this mighty white creature any more than he might with the way he was acting.
"S-Souse..... are you n-new?" He asked, this wolf looked vaguely familiar, in fact, the young black male swore he'd seen him milling about the pack grounds before. What was his name... Hali... Hali something. He gulped. He hadn't ever talked with this wolf before and he could clearly see why, but he didn't seem to want to hurt him. Yet.
(ooc-- Okee dokee. Thanks for replying btw. :3)

The large male stopped in his tracks when the sooty-hued wolf spoke, his voice rattling like a leaf. Halifax was utterly shocked at the cowering male's reaction to his approach. He was not naturally a dominating nor intimidating presence, and baring witness to a reaction that conveyed he was felt very strange. Frowning, he dropped down onto his belly, knowing now that this was no trespasser, and feeling safe enough to do so. "It is a pleasure to meet a fellow Sousepack wolf, then." He said, his voice quiet enough that only the wolf before him would hear. There was a warmth to his voice that he had not intended, and did not know that he was capable of. He did not want to startle the black-pelted male any more than he seemed to have already.
"Yes, I am new to the pack. Nara called a meeting to announce my arrival, but I do not recall seeing your face there..?" He said, his voice maintaining the same level of softness. He left his sentence hanging, hoping that his acquaintance might explain why he had not been there. Souselands were big, it was possible that he simply did not hear Nara's call. He was not overly bothered by the fact that the timid wolf was not there, but was not sure in what other direction to take the conversation. He hoped that his words would not be taken as an accusation of any sort, as it seemed this wolf felt easily threatened.
Halifax yawned, the heat of the day making him feel sluggish and exhausted. He was not in the mood to be schooled by his "mentor", and for the past few days, had been doing his best to avoid crossing paths with Haze. He knew it was inevitable though, that he would have to meet up with the Warrior at some stage. He seemed eager enough to take Halifax under his wing, which actually unnerved Hal a bit, though he could not be sure why. It appeared that his hostility toward Dragula at the pack meeting had eased what tension there had been between the two rivaling males, Drag and Haze. Halifax supposed this was a good thing, though now the scrawny Dragula directed all the hatred and loathing he could muster at him. If anybody could handle the repugnance though, it was the nomadic Halifax.
[/b] not a problem :3 it's a relief for Hal to meet a wolf who isn't looking to take a chunk out of his hide xD //[/sub][/ul] [/blockquote][/blockquote][/size][/color]

Raelen, thoroughly shocked by the white wolf's reaction to his timidness, instinctively lowered himself flat on his belly as well, as to better hear and make eye contact with the wolf; which he wasn't brave enough to make yet. His lowered ears perked as the wolf spoke, trying to pick up his soft words. Whoa! This wolf wasn't walking all over him like trash! Like most of the wolves did in the pack, taking advantage of his submissive nature. But this one was... being friendly. And to tell you the truth he was... kind of glad. He wasn't use to friendliness and it felt.. nice.
"It is a pleasure to meet a fellow Sousepack wolf, then."
Raelen, for the first time in a long time, gave a weary but nervous and twitchy smile as he shook his black head a bit, his ears flopping about ridiculously.
"Hehe... no no. The pleasure is all mine." He answered, his voice less shaky, just a bit. But enough to show a more definite amount of comfort that spiked within him. Hey! Was he actually talking to another wolf without having them taunt him or mess with him? Wow this was....
"Yes, I am new to the pack. Nara called a meeting to announce my arrival, but I do not recall seeing your face there..?"
Raelen blinked and felt heat flush his face at the unanswered question in his tone. No doubt he wanted Raelen to explain his absence at the meeting. The real problem was, Raelen had some trouble remembering where he was at the time. Was he chasing that rabbit? Or was he out milling about? He hardly ever dwelt in camp for too long, seeing as he rarely had anything to do there. His smile turned sheepish just before he opened his maw and spoke,
"Aha. Um. I heard about it but I.. err..." The black wolf cut off, frowning as his brow furrowed in confusion and thought. Where was he? Huh. Oh Yeah! Now he remembered! His pale amber eyes widened a bit in revelation and his smile turned a bit brighter.
"Oh! I was out hunting just the other day! I had been chasing this rabbit that had been evading me for hours! But I didn't stop until I caught him! But by the time I came back the announcement was over, but I overheard everyone talking about it so I figured I didn't miss anything too big." The dark wolf babbled, then clamped his mouth shut, feeling that familiar sense of heat rush his face. Ugh he hated when he started to babble. Then it dawned on him. He had just disregarded Hali-whats-his-face's announcement! The wolf's face turned to one of horror as he sputtered his apology.
"Ah! I'm sorry! I-I didn't mean it like that! I- forgive me." Raelen said, his voice dropping low. See, this is why he didn't have friends, he was just too awkward and annoying as one bold male described. He might as well shove his face into the dirt right now and hope Hali-guy got the message. Ugh.
"W-What's your name again?" He asked suddenly, the blank spot in his mind for the white male's name was bothering him severely.

Seeing a smile, though awkward and seemingly half-hearted, upon the nervous wolf's lips was encouraging, and brought a helpless smile to his own lips. "Hehe... no no. The pleasure is all mine." It was also a relief to see that his company appeared to be relaxing just the tiniest bit, his words no longer strained and dis-jointed. The male's response drew a deep, close-mouthed chuckle from the pit of Hal's stomach. The sound shifted to a mute sigh as he observed the wolf becoming ruffled and awkward at his question. It seemed as though what calmness Halifax's gentle approach had granted the other wolf was coming undone as he began to prattle on nervously. Still, Halifax listened attentively, nodding as he came to understand the reason for this nameless male's absence.
Deep honey-brown eyes widened as the fragile male fell into a chorus of apologies, not quite understanding what he was apologizing for. He replayed the words in his head, and could pick nothing that would be cause for an upset on his behalf. Shaking his head desperately, Halifax tried to interject the frantic wolf. "Please, stop! You have neither said nor done anything to upset me. There is no need to for any apologies, please." His eyes were pleading, his voice gaining a little more volume. For a wolf to beg for his forgiveness in such a manner felt wrong, going against all that he believed of himself. "I am sorry if I make you nervous. I cannot understand how that is so, but I do apologize." This felt more natural, and helped to ease his tension, bringing his voice back to its usual quietness.
Waiting a moment to let his words sink in, Halifax decided it was time to learn this poor creatures name. "My name is Halifax. If you will allow it, I would very much like to know yours..?" Again, he left his sentence wide open, inviting his companion to either accept or reject the request.

Raelen knew he was making a fool of himself and was forced to look away once the white wolf brushed off his apologies. He hadn't even caught it, so there really wasn't a reason for him to apologize in the first place! The dark animal frowned. He was never good at talking to others or making friends, usually he said something wrong and the wolf would either do one or three things.
A. Laugh and attempt to walk away
B. Snap at him
C. Just make fun of him and then leave.
Not very nice options if he did say so himself.
"I am sorry if I make you nervous. I cannot understand how that is so, but I do apologize."
Raelen looked up sharply. Halifax was apologizing? Why? He met the white wolf's gaze, confused but managing to utter out a reply to that.
"You don't have to apologize to me! I-I get nervous around everybody. It's just my nature I guess. But thanks anyway." Raelen said, smiling sheepishly again. His lips felt very very strange when they curled up to flash a smile, the feeling was alien to him, since he hadn't smile in what felt like years.
""My name is Halifax. If you will allow it, I would very much like to know yours..?" "
Once again he left the question open in the air. And Raelen found himself relaxing again. Okay. He just needed to chill and this could be a nice conversation.
"Of course. My name is Raelen. It's nice to meet you Halifax, and I thank you for your company." He said, his smile turning genuine as he dipped his head to the white wolf, now almost completely calm.

The look of puzzlement etched into the anxious male's face conveyed perfectly his astonishment to having the apology thrown back at him. Halifax had to admit, thus far it had been a rather confusing conversation. "You don't have to apologize to me! I-I get nervous around everybody. It's just my nature I guess. But thanks anyway." This caused the Warrior's frown to deepen, more with concern that puzzlement. Why would he be nervous around everybody? Sure, each wolf had his own individual nature and inclinations, but Hal had to wonder whether this was something that had occurred as result of some sort of traumatic event. To make things worse, wolves that seemed weak and defenseless, more often than not, drew the vultures near. He imagined wolves deeming themselves pretty tough picking on those like the sooty wolf before him. Such pettiness, unfortunately, was common and only made those like this male more on edge.
"I see." Was all he could say, his tone carrying an under-current of sadness. He had to brighten up a little though when he noted the other wolf drop the tension again, a more natural smile lighting up his rather handsome features. "Of course. My name is Raelen. It's nice to meet you Halifax, and I thank you for your company." Raelen. A strong name, Halifax thought. It was relieving to finally have something to call this wolf, a title. Hal gave a slight nod of his head, lapsing into the comfortable conversation. "I must say, it is a vast relief to converse without the under-current of tension or threat. I'm rather tired of being expected to do something, live up to some kind of preset standards. But you Raelen, I feel you have none." He gave the kindly male a small smile, one that conveyed just how grateful he really was.
Propping himself back into a sitting position, Hal's off-white began to sway gently from side to side. "So Raelen, what position do you hold in Sousepack? I have been named a Warrior." he uttered the last word with tangible disgust, and tried to veil it with a contradicting smile. Perhaps Raelen would miss the way he spat "Warrior" out like a bad taste in his mouth. He did not mean to complain about his duty, as he knew what a vital role his played in the security of the pack. He did not want Raelen to think he did not understand, that he took his duty lightly. With these thoughts, a small frown began to emerge between his bright, honey-brown eyes once again.

"I must say, it is a vast relief to converse without the under-current of tension or threat. I'm rather tired of being expected to do something, live up to some kind of preset standards. But you Raelen, I feel you have none."
Raelen felt a bit good at hearing that. By why was everyone so against the white wolf? He was so kind and understanding. If he were the other pack members, he would have welcomed him with open arms! Halifax was a great new addition to the pack, one very much needed, not to be scorned and shunned. How dare they. Have they no respect? The dark wolf bristled slightly. Finally, when he found someone that was nice to him and not just pretending, everyone hates them. It wasn't fair. Halifax was a good wolf. He knew it.
But before he could ask why Halifax had spoken again, something about his position?
"So Raelen, what position do you hold in Sousepack? I have been named a Warrior."
Raelen frowned a bit more so at this. Why had he said warrior like he had bitten into a honeycomb full of ants? It was honestly none of Raelen's business, so he said nothing, but smiled easily when he it was his turn to speak.
"I'm a hunter!" He squeaked rather excitedly. He loved his position. It was something he would love to die doing, caught in the thrill of the hunt, what a way to leave this world. "Hunting is kind of my passion. I love it more than anything! And well, not to brag, but I'm pretty good at it!" He added, grinning now. He was always so animated when speaking of his favorite things, which he rarely got to do.
"But I'm sure you're going to be a brilliant Warrior. Your body type looks right for it." Raelen said, hoping he didn't offend to white brute. He himself was slender and smaller than most males, lanky and built for speed, which was one of the reasons why he was so great a hunter.
"Why is everyone so against you coming into the pack?" He asked suddenly after a few moments of silence. "You seem like a nice guy." He also added, his eyes glittering with confusion and a bit of concern.

Halifax found himself being swept up in the uplifting spirits of the dark-pelted wolf, speaking passionately about his rank in the pack. The off-white Warrior could not help but mirror Raelen's grin, adding a throaty chuckle when he spoke boastfully of his Hunting abilties. "I have no trouble believing that, Raelen." He laughed, golden eyes sparkling. He had not felt so carefree and relaxed in some time, it was a sensation that would later be missed. He wished that he could feel this at ease around Nara, as she so wished he could be. The easy laugh rolled slowly into a sigh at Raelen's next words. Perhaps to the untrained eye his physique was impressive, but Halifax knew better. He did not have the build he had been meant to have, did not have the skill expected. He would make a pitiful Warrior. Raelen's bold query that followed caused him to frown thoughtfully. Why, indeed.
He took a deep breath before attempting to answer. "I myself cannot fully understand their reactions..." He paused a moment before continuing. "It is one I have seen many times before, though. Where ever I tread, disapproval and animosity seems to follow hastily in my wake. - My own father..." His eyes widened at the direction he realized he was headed. No, this was not a topic he wanted to revisit, much less discuss. Dropping the unfinished sentence, he decided he did not have such a fruitful answer after all: "I do not really know why my presence seems to invoke the disparagement that it does, to be honest Raelen." He turned his gaze to the lazy current, the familiar shape of its fluid movement comforting and relaxing.
Not wanting to shake the finally-calm Raelen out of his high spirits, Halifax suddenly leapt to his feet, eyes sparkling with what he hoped would appear as excitement. "You know, I was eying off a herd of young bucks earlier today, but had to let the opportunity pass as I was not capable of bringing down one of the beasts alone." He said, the memory of disappointment visiting his features for a moment. "Seeing as you are here now though, would you help me? I think I know where they were headed."
