since i'm still not-so much in ic posting and i think this is such a fab site so here's my silly introduction thread. yayness!
okay, my online name is juanita after the saint juan diego. so needless to say, i'm a pretty "religious" person. :]
hhm. i'm going to be eighteen in september. i'm pretty excited! i've always been more or less homeschooled all my life. i love it. right now i think my plans for college is to become an registered nurse, possibly for an ER or missionary or something like that. but i looove animals, my past dogs, i owned a gsd/border collie mix named sophie. then a basset hound/shar pei mix named max. then a smooth foxed terrier then a welsh springer spaniel. somehow we now just have a stupid chihuahua that i love to tears and a scary cat. i think when i turn 18 this year i'm going to get a job as the local animal shelter.
besides all that... here's a few interests. i LOVE music. i play the piano, a little bit of guitar and i'm going to try to self teach myself the mandolin. my favorite music artists include, bob dylan, radiohead, ryan adams, the libertines, and mewithoutYou. i also love jeff buckley, eminem, amy winehouse, janis joplin, and fionn regan. ...pretty random xD
i like nintendo alot, i only like a select few of animes [death note, sailor moon, kodocha mostly] i hate to say i watch too much tv, or more specifically tv dvd sets. my favourite shows, ER, 30 rock, mad men and veronica mars.
but i love writing and reading! my favourite book is life of pi and right now my favorite writer is oscar wilde. i love poetry as well.
i have an obsession with edie sedgwick and bob dylan n.n; the sixties are just awesome.
also know that i abuse smilies!! xDDDDDD
^^; i hope you guys don't think me going on and on about myself.

-flail- An intro thread! I like these. It's fun knowing who's behind the computer screen, you know?
Anyway, what religion are you? I went to a catholic church for a few years- it was a pretty place.
Haha, I can relate to your love of dogs. I have three at the moment- Bernie, Moses, and Patches.
Bernie was my first dog. We got him from the animal shelter. Before that, he ran lose around the neighborhood, so before then we were pretty familiar with him. He's all black, and rather burly looking. From his size and demeanor, we're thinking he's a border collie mix. He's somewhat old now, eight or nine years, yet still a great dog. Really loyal and protective.
Our second dog was Patches. Patches is our only inside-dog, he's a purebred chihuahua. Typically we don't have small dogs, but Patches was given to us. xD He's all white, with a brown splotch in the middle of his back and a kind of brown mask on his face. He's rather odd. Humps Bernie and Moses's tail on a regular basis (too short to reach anything else), and is our only dog that's not neutered. Barks when you touch the window at all, howls when a siren from a firetruck or police car is heard.
Then we got Moses, the newest addition. We've had him for about two years now. Two years ago, he was basically wandering around the neighborhood. His owner let him run, basically. Well, we started feeding him since he wasn't getting food any other way, and soon he bonded with Bernie so close that he considered Bernie his 'brother' in a way. So unofficially, Moses became our dog. Buut then one day his owner's friend (kid was like, twelve) said that the owner wanted his dog back. So we had to give Moses up. But then Moses came back like a week later, and he became ours again until he ran off. We found him at the animal shelter. They neutered him and then after that we adopted him. So he's now officially our dog. Yay!
He's the weirdest out of them all. It's hard to explain..he just..is. One of the things I like best about him is that he's real calm when in the car- just sits and looks out the window. I'm not sure what breed he is, but he's definitely a mutt. His colors are similar to a Rottweiler, with the all-black and patches of brown. His head also looks like a Rott's, with the 'heavy' (as I call it) jaw. But his fur is too long for a Rott, and he has huge webbed paws. Some sort of retriever/rott mix.
Anyhow, those are my dogs. xD
I like listening to music, but utterly suck at playing any instrument. In elementary school I got to play a recorder, which is kind of like a flute but 50x cheaper (like five dollars). I was okay at it. Then right now in my General Music class I got to play the handbells. Yay. Besides that, I have no musical talent. xD But I think cellos are cool. Piano is pretty cool as well-I'd love to be able and play a keyboard.
Ooh, and btw, are you fluent in l33tspeak? Most smiley abusers are. I <3 l33t. |-|0\|/ r U?? (just a sample! Muahhaha).
Anyhow, no worries about going on and on. People love talking about themselves, myself included.

i'm glad i'm met with enthusiasm! and a reply at all! i can tell people here are very sweet.
i'm actually catholic. i almost decided to change but fact is, i like it alot. it's all so pretty and after i did some research, i don't know. i feel like i belong in that community.
ohmmeeeegooodness, your dogs sounds so cute! rofl, patches reminds me of my chihuahua. they are so... stupid but they have such a spunky personality! but i do miss having larger dogs, i think one day i'm just going to get one of those giant dogs haha. that's weird about moses, or more so good since his old owners didn't care that much about him. he basically chose you to be his owner. aw!
that's cool! i'm sure you're not giving yourself enough credit. and it's really never to late to try to learn an instrument, i got into piano a tad late then quit for a while but just last year i've gotten back into it. i went to a party and pretty much everyone there could play amazingly well. like fur elise amazing xD i was so sad and in awe. but they've all been playing since they were eight so what can you expect? thing about piano, it's alot easier to understand the music theory than on guitar. i'm struggling guitar wise to 'get' it.
not at all! i'm always wondering what that's about. i've seen it, but never knew a thing about it or that it was called that. explain it to me maybe?
lol! ain't that true =) [/blockquote]

Ooh, I got a question I forgot to ask in my other post. You said you were homeschooled. I was just wondering how that works. Does the State ever check in and see your progress or something? Do you have a rough estimate of what your grade level would be if you were in a school? Where do you get textbooks? And like, who teaches you? Mom/dad, a tutor? Homeschooling has always fascinated me.
Yeah, I agree- music is a lot easier to understand on a piano. Probably because each note is an individual key, while on a guitar, the note depends on the string and where you place your fingers, etc.
I'm just curious of what makes a 'good' piano player. Like...anyone can press the keys to make notes. So is a good piano player just very comfortable with playing, can play difficult chords, etc.?
L33tspeak...how to explain. Well, 'l33t' (known as leet in regular words) is short for 'elite', implying that leetspeak is elitespeak- therefore for elite people (it's a joke. xD). You write in l33tspeak using symbols and such for letters/numbers. '3' represents e (it's like a backwords, uppercase e). @ means a, etc. To decipher it, you just need to look at it visually, like you're looking at a picture. |-|! ^ (means hi)
It's rather easy to write/understand, can be made more complex by using different symbols. Another example of l33t: @r3|\|t ! g00c| @t t|-|!$ ??1 (aren't i good at t h i s ??) You can write letters in many different ways too, which is what I love. D can be |), or c|, or |} or just d. Haha, I love it.

hm... to be honest, not really. you have to register for it and i do remember when i was like in second grade i took some standardized test but that's all i remember. my plan is that i'm going to take ACT and GED. sort of. the text books are made for certain gradebooks but many tend to just do their own thing, meaning you can be in your third year in high school, but have a grade 12 and a grade 9 book, while the others are 11th grade. i know a few homeschoolers when asked what grade they're in, they go 'uhm....' because they'll have a random bunch of books. i don't know if that's any different than real high school. we've often gone to these sales at hotels, the people selling them travel around selling them. but now we usually order from certain catalouges, this year we're ordering from online from various different sites, including amazon.com haha. my mom stays at home so she helps me out some, but to be honest, i really teach myself. but you have to stay on top of it, it's so easy to say 'i'll do it tomorrow' and it piles up. saxon math does come with a computer disk and it has a 5 to 15 minute session for each lesson. it's very very helpful! the abeca curriculum does have a dvd set filming a school in florida, so each book you choose you can get the dvd set for that class with it. the downside they show the entire class, to me, i like it straight to the point of the lesson. i know a homeschool girl online who has a special computer that shows the classes in a high school, like live i think. and in my homeschool group, one of the guy's dad was a math teacher so he'll actually hold a class together for whoever is in algebra 2 and help them out in whatever their parents can't help them with. any reason why?
that's true, it's just so much easier keeping track. i can't imagine what it must be like learning theory on a harp xDD very comfortable, their fingers just glide around the keys, they put alot of emotion in it, making sure it's loud and soft where it needs to be. the speed, whether it needs to become quicker or slower. and not to mention working the pedal.
rofl! wow!! xD i feel more elite and vip being told this! but i have to admit, i was seriously struggling to read what you l33tspoke xDDD but that's still awesome, i may start trying to do it now.
